Review by Mr & Mrs Border, County DurhamWe have been on holiday on the unspoilt peninsular of Pelion in Greece for the last two weeks and thought you would like to know of a unique hotel in Tsagarada, a mountain village in Pelion. Situated just off the main square, Agia Paraskevi in the shade of the ancient Plane tree (said to be the oldest in Greece), "The Lost Unicorn" is a romantic, magical step back in time. The hotel is a merry-go-round of antiques from England and Athens and gives an atmosphere of of a bygone age. The proprietors, Clare and Christos Martzos, made us feel very welcome and insisted we treat the hotel as our home away from home. They were also able to tell us a lot about the history of the house, especially during the Second World War.
We had a very pleasant afternoon tea on the flower filled terrace beside the water fountain and with the ripple of wind chimes blowing occasionallyin the breeze. Our bedroom was luxurious, with a four-poster bed. The lounge (complete with honesty bar) and an ancient library with card games to play, were a delight to explore.
In the opulent dining room the following morning, we enjoyed filter coffee, muesli and cereal, juice, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon followed by toast and preserves. All were very prettily served on Willow Pattern dinner service. (Very appropriate for Greece - blue and white!)
The hotel offered a level of friendliness and service we have not encountered anywhere else on our travels. We feel we have discovered a magical place, which does not exist anywhere in the real world and this made our visit even more special, very relaxing and peaceful and we were very sorry when we had to leave.
